
Nygell Verdier, Independence Patriots
The senior power forward who has been having a solid season for the Patriots had himself an outstanding game on Friday night to lead Independence to the team’s third consecutive Southwestern 4A Conference championship over perennial rival Myers Park on the road.
Verdier scored 18 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, shot 47% from the floor, added 3 assists including a key block and 2 deflections in the Patriots biggest game of the season to date. He also swished two free throws with 11.6 seconds remaining in the game to secure the victory and championship title for the Patriots who won 56-53.
Verdier who has been consistent for Independence, has averaged 13.1 points per game, 4.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.7 steals, 1.0 blocks, 314 points, 113 rebounds, 81 assists, 40 steals and 24 blocks in the 24 games he has played this season. He is both durable and reliable and has made a major contribution is the Patriot’s success.
