Thursday, May 25

Circle K Speed Street presented by Coca-Cola will be held Thursday, May 25 through Saturday, May 27 in Uptown Charlotte. The event will feature music, show cars, appearances by NASCAR drivers, interactive displays, giveaways, kids’ events and food vendors. The festival will be open each day from 12-8 p.m. on Tryon Street. Entertainment begins around 6:30 p.m. on the Coca-Cola Stage in Romare Bearden Park. Ticket prices for Thursday evening entertainment are $10 each and $15 each for Friday and Saturday evenings. For more information and a schedule of events, visit 600festival.com.



 Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:

Family Story Time will be held at 11:15 a.m.

Reading Buddies for children ages five through 12 will be available at 4 and 4:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Bring the whole family in their pjs for Pajama Storytime at 6:30 p.m.

Friday, May 26

Mint Hill Madness will be held Friday, May 26 through Sunday, May 28 at the Mint Hill Veterans Memorial Park. Festival hours are Friday 4-11 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday 12-6 p.m. The event will feature food, music, carnival rides and arts/crafts vendors. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to Stumptown Park in downtown Matthews for “Food Truck Friday.” The event is held on second and fourth Fridays, March through September, from 5-9 pm. The event features food and dessert trucks, music and bounce houses. Check out “Matthews Food Truck Fridays” on Facebook for up-to-date information for each event.

Saturday, May 27

The 33rd annual all-American Mint Hill Madness parade will begin at 9 a.m. The parade route will run from Publix to Food Lion along Hwy. 51. The Mint Hill Madness Festival will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the Mint Hill Veterans Memorial Park.

The Mint Hill Madness Fireworks Extravaganza will begin at 9 p.m. The show is boasted to be the largest in the Carolinas. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and arrive early to see the show. Fireworks are visible from anywhere in the Mint Hill Veterans Memorial Park with the soccer fields being the best viewing location.

Family Story Time will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Teen tutors will be available to help with elementary-level reading or math homework at 9:30 a.m. First-come, first-served for 30 minute sessions.

A children’s book club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Children are invited to pack a lunch and listen as a chapter book is read aloud. The May Selection is Fortunately, the Story of Dr. Dolittle by Hugh Lofting.

The Mint Hill Madness Festival will be open from 12-6 p.m. at the Mint Hill Veterans Memorial Park.

On Sunday, May 28 and Monday, May 29, Carowinds will offer free park admission to any active, inactive or retired United States Service men and women with a valid military I.D.

Reading Buddies for children ages five through 12 will be available at 6 and 6:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Two Time Story Time for toddlers age 24 to 36 months will be held at 10:15 a.m.

Preschool Story Time for children age three to five will be held at 11:15 a.m.

Teen tutors will be available to help with elementary-level reading or math homework at 4 p.m. First-come, first-served for 30 minute sessions.
