Sea Life Aquarium in Concord will host Homeschool Week September 18-22. Homeschoolers can purchase tickets for a discounted rate of $7.50 per person. The aquarium will also offer learning activities from 12-4:30 p.m. for a variety of ages. Families must present proof of homeschooling to receive the discounted price at admissions. Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:
Family Story Time will be held at 11:15 a.m.
Reading Buddies for children ages five through 12 will be available at 4 and 4:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.
Children between the ages of 5 and 11 can come by the library at 6 p.m. to receive free homework help from a library volunteer.
Friday, September 22
Bring a lawn chair or blanket to Stumptown Park in downtown Matthews for the last “Food Truck Friday” of the season. The event is held on second and fourth Fridays, March through September, from 5-9 pm. The event features food and dessert trucks, music and bounce houses. Saturday, September 23
On Saturdays in September, Discovery Place will offer free admission to educators and one guest. Free admission is available at any of the Discovery Place museums including Discovery Place Science, Discovery Place Nature, Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville and Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham. To receive free admission, educators must present a valid school ID or NCDNPE homeschool certificate.

Children can strengthen reading skills by reading aloud to a therapy dog during the Paws to Read program at 10:30 a.m.
Children can learn chess basics during the Learn, Play, Connect program at 3 p.m.
