Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:

Family Story Time will be held at 11:15 a.m.

Bring the kids in their pjs for Pajama Story Time at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are currently on sale for the Valentine Dance in Matthews. The dance will be held at Crews Recreation Center on Saturday, February 9 from 4-7 p.m. The evening is for adults and their children and will include dinner, refreshments, desserts, photography, music, dancing, Valentine crafts and takeaway gifts. Any combination of significant adult and child are welcome. Tickets are $15 per person and are available online or in person at the Matthews Community Center or Crews Recreation Center. The Children’s Theatre of Charlotte will present Judy Moody and Stink: The Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Treasure Hunt January 18 through February 10 at the Wells Fargo Playhouse. Showtimes are offered on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only. The show, based on the popular books by Megan McDonald, is recommended for ages four and older. The Charlotte Checkers will take on Providence at 7 p.m. at the Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte. Fans will enjoy Harry Potter Night with Butterbeer at select concession stands and themed content, games and performances. The first 1,000 fans will receive a wristband for one of the four Hogwarts houses and will compete for prizes throughout the night. A special package including a discounted ticket, Checkers hat and the ability to take a themed photo with live owls is available online. The Checkers are also collecting items for a School Supply Drive. Donate at least 10 items to Classroom Central on the way in and receive a free ticket for a future game. Celebrate Groundhog Day at Discovery Place Nature in Charlotte from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Stop by the Creature Cavern to meet the museum’s resident groundhog, Queen Charlotte, and explore how the critters of the Carolinas deal with the cold winter months during the quarterly Creature Feature “Coping with the Cold.” Visit discoveryplace.org for more information.

In honor of Black History Month, Reed Gold Mine State Historic Site will offer “Black Gold: North Carolina Slavery and Reed Gold Mine” tours every Saturday in February at 1 p.m. The cost of the tour is $2 per person ages 8 and older.
