Thursday, December 13

The Charlotte Motor Speedway will host the annual Speedway Christmas from November 18 through December 31. The Christmas light show boasts over 3.5 million lights and a Christmas village including a 50 foot Ferris wheel, Bethlehem village, photos with Santa and more. Family Story Time will be held at 11:15 a.m.

Story Garden: Homeschool edition will be held at 1 p.m. Children will enjoy stories and hands-on gardening activities. Registration is required.

Rookie Science will be held at 4 p.m. Children will discover the world of science through books, hands-on educational activities, and experiments. Registration is required.

Reading Buddies for children ages 5 through 11 will be available at 5 and 5:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Friday, December 14

The Children’s Theatre of Charlotte will present “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: The Musical” November 23 to December 23. Visit www.ctcharlotte.org for show times and ticket information.

Saturday, December 15

Bring a stuffed animal to toss on the ice after the first goal and receive a free ticket to a future game. All stuffed animals collected will be donated to charity. Family Story Time will be held at 9:30 a.m.

One-on-one math tutoring sessions with a teen volunteer will be available at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Registration is required.

Children can strengthen reading skills by reading aloud to a therapy dog during the Paws to Read program at 10:30 a.m.

Community Service Saturday will be held at 2 p.m. Teens will work on community service projects to help the library and other community service organizations. Registration is required.

Sunday, December 16

Monday, December 17

Holiday on Ice, Charlotte’s outdoor ice skating rink, is open for the 2018 season. Starting November 16, the rink is open Wednesday through Sunday. Starting December 17, the rink will be open 7 days a week. Bring your own skates for $10 or admission plus skate rental is $14. Families with babies and toddlers can visit the library at 9:30 a.m. for Family Story Time: 0-2. The program will include stories, songs and movement.

Children will enjoy stories, songs and activities in both English and Spanish during the Stories in 2 Languages: Spanish program at 10:15 a.m.

An Active Reading Workshop will be held at 4 p.m. Parents and children can learn fun ideas and activities to support early literacy at home. Registration is required for this four part workshop series.
