Happy Thanksgiving!
The Charlotte Thanksgiving Day Parade will begin at 9 a.m. The parade will march south on Tryon Street from 9th Street to Stonewall Street. If you can’t make it to the parade in person, the parade will be broadcast on WBTV at 4 p.m. and will be live streamed on WBTV’s Facebook page. The Children’s Theatre of Charlotte will present “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: The Musical” November 23 to December 23. Visit www.ctcharlotte.org for show times and ticket information.
Holiday on Ice, Charlotte’s outdoor ice skating rink, is open for the 2018 season. Starting November 16, the rink is open Wednesday through Sunday. Starting December 17, the rink will be open 7 days a week. Bring your own skates for $10 or admission plus skate rental is $14. Family Story Time will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Mint Hill Library.
The Charlotte Checkers will take on Laval at 6 p.m. at the Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte. Bring a toy to donate to the toy drive and receive a free ticket to the Sunday, December 16 game. The first 40 people to donate a checkers board game for Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital will also receive an autographed Checkers item. Town of Matthews holiday event tickets are currently on sale. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Matthews Community Center or online. The Nutcracker will be performed November 24, 25, December 1 and 2. Tickets are $7 for ages 13 and up and $5 for ages 12 and under. The Sugar Plum Tea Party will immediately follow the 3 p.m. matinee performances of The Nutcracker on November 25 and December 2. Tickets are $5 per person. Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:
Families with babies and toddlers can visit the library at 9:30 a.m. for Family Story Time: 0-2. The program will include stories, songs and movement.
Children will enjoy stories, songs and activities in both English and Spanish during the Stories in 2 Languages: Spanish program at 10:15 a.m.
Reading Buddies for children ages 5 through 11 will be available at 6 and 6:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.
