Thursday, October 11

The Glow, a Halloween wonderland of more than 5,000 hand-carved jack o’lanterns, will illuminate the Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Carolina Rebellion Campground from October 4-28. The event will feature detailed single pumpkin carvings and large structures, fall food, and live demonstrations from master carvers. The Halloween stroll will be open from Thursday through Sunday. Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:

Family Story Time will be held at 11:15 a.m.

STEAM 101 will be held at 4 p.m. This month, teens will explore the physics of life-size Fortnite. Registration is required.

Reading Buddies for children ages 5 through 11 will be available at 5 and 5:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Friday, October 12

The Children’s Theater of Charlotte will present Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical from September 28 to October 21 at McColl Family Theater. The play is recommended for ages 6 and older. Visit www.ctcharlotte.org for show times and ticket information.

Saturday, October 13

Kids in Nature Day will be held at Squirrel Lake Park in Matthews from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will feature fishing, a scavenger hunt, nature walks, STEM activities, animal explorations, nature crafts and more. Kids in Nature Day is presented by HAWK (Habitat and Wildlife Keepers), the Town of Matthews and NCWF’s Great Outdoors University.

A Canine Carnival Fundraiser Event will be held at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Mint Hill from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event will feature dog vendors, K-9 entertainment, dog costume contests, dog peanut butter eating contest, silent auction, dog adoption and more. Proceeds from the carnival will benefit the Mint Hill and Matthews Police K-9s.

Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:

Family Story Time will be held at 9:30 a.m.

One-on-one math tutoring sessions with a teen volunteer will be available at 10 a.m. Registration is required.

Reading Buddies for children ages 5 through 11 will be available at 2 and 2:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.

The Chess Club will meet at 3 p.m.

Monday, October 15

Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:

Families with babies and toddlers can visit the library at 9:30 a.m. for Family Story Time: 0-2. The program will include stories, songs and movement.

Reading Buddies for children ages 5 through 11 will be available at 6 and 6:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Tuesday, October 16

Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:

Baby Story Time for babies birth through 17 months will be held at 10:15 a.m.

Tiny Tots Story Time for toddlers ages 18 to 23 months will be held at 11:15 a.m.

Reading Buddies for children ages 5 through 11 will be available at 5 and 5:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.

The Teen Geek Club will meet at 6 p.m. The theme for this month will be fairy tales with a twist. Registration is required.

Wednesday, October 17

The Charlotte Hornets will take on the Milwaukee Bucks at 7 p.m. at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte. All fans will receive an opening night t-shirt. Visit www.nba.com/hornets for a schedule, promotions and ticket information.
