Visit Discovery Place Kids in Huntersville from 4-7 p.m. for the fifth annual Countdown to Kindergarten event. The free event focuses on kindergarten readiness. During the event, families can meet with local kindergarten teachers, learn what to expect at kindergarten, visit a pretend classroom and more. Beyond The Stage, a children’s theater company for kids ages 5-17, will hold an open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Family Sports & Fitness in Stanfield. A Back to School Pep Rally will be held at Mint Hill Town Hall from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Families are invited to celebrate the start of the 2018 school year with Independence High School athletes, cheerleaders, band, boosters, parents, faculty and staff. The event will feature a concert with the Independence High School Marching Band, a bounce house, face painting, food and family games. The Mint Hill Police and Fire will also be on hand to discuss safety with families.
