Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:
Family Story Time will be held at 11:15 a.m.
Reading Buddies for children ages 5 through 12 will be available at 4 and 4:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.
Children between the ages of 5 and 11 can come by the library at 6 p.m. to receive free homework help from a library volunteer.
Friday, April 13
The Charlotte Knights will take on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at 7 p.m. at the BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte. The LEGO Let’s Play Tour weekend will feature activities such as building tables for creative play, family challenges, photo opportunities with large-scale LEGO models and a chance to build and launch your own LEGO creations down a race ramp. There will be giveaways, prizes, and post-game fireworks.
The Children’s Theatre of Charlotte will present Madagascar: A Musical Adventure April 13 to May 6 at the McColl Family Theater in Charlotte. This 75 minute performance is recommended for ages four and older. Visit www.ctcharlotte.org for show times and ticket pricing.
Saturday, April 14
Reed Gold Mine will host a World War I encampment from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The encampment is part of a World War I traveling exhibit. The encampment will show how soldiers would have camped near the battlefields, basic school of field warfare, rifle demo and possibly a gas drill. Additional activities are scheduled throughout the day around the visitor center. The event is free.
Celebrate Earth Day on the Greenway with Kids in Nature Day presented by Habitat and Wildlife Keepers (HAWK). The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Four Mile Creek Greenway behind the Matthews Community Center. The event will feature eco-friendly exhibits and vendors, rain barrels from Coca Cola, HAWK-cycling, E-cycling, document shredding (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.), free NWF tree seedlings, hikes and scavenger hunts, music, kids crafts and fairy houses. The Charlotte Knights will take on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at 2 p.m. at the BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte. The Knights will celebrate Homer the Dragon’s 29th birthday. Many of Homer’s mascot friends will make appearances at the ballpark to meet and greet fans. The LEGO Let’s Play Tour weekend will feature activities such as building tables for creative play, family challenges, photo opportunities with large-scale LEGO models and a chance to build and launch your own LEGO creations down a race ramp. There will be giveaways and prizes. After the game, kids will have the opportunity to run the bases.

Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:
Families with babies and toddlers can visit the library at 9:30 a.m. for Family Story Time: 0-2. The program will include stories, songs and movement.
An Active Reading Workshop will be held at 11 a.m. Parents and children ages 2-5 can learn fun ideas and activities to support early literacy at home. Registration is required for this four part workshop series.

Baby Story Time for babies birth through 17 months will be held at 10:15 a.m.
Tiny Tots Story Time for toddlers ages 18 to 23 months will be held at 11:15 a.m.
The Teen Comic Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. Registration is required.
