Sea Life Aquarium in Concord is offering Healthcare Professional Appreciation Month January 8-February 8. The aquarium is offering free admission to healthcare professionals and 50 percent off admission for up to four guests. Hospital employees and healthcare professionals covering industries such as dental, orthodontics, speech pathology, social work, and more are eligible. Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:

Family Story Time will be held at 11:15 a.m.

Reading Buddies for children ages 5 through 12 will be available at 4 and 4:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Children between the ages of 5 and 11 can come by the library at 6 p.m. to receive free homework help from a library volunteer.

Friday, February 9

The Charlotte Checkers will take on Springfield at 7:15 p.m. at the Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte. The first 1,500 fans to arrive will receive a free winter hat courtesy of Share the Warmth presented by Piedmont Natural Gas. The Checkers will offer a Family Night discount of $45 (40 percent) on groups of four tickets purchased online. The Checkers will also hold a Smile Drive benefiting America’s Toothfairy. Bring a toothbrush and toothpaste to donate to underserved children in Charlotte and receive a free ticket voucher for the Sunday, April 8 game. Saturday, February 10

A Father-Daughter Valentine Dance will be held at Crews Recreation Center in Matthews from 4-7 p.m. Refreshments will be served and a professional photographer will be onsite. Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:

Family Story Time will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Children can strengthen reading skills by reading aloud to a therapy dog during the Paws to Read program at 10:30 a.m.

The Teen Art Club will meet at 2 p.m. Registration is required.

The Chess Club will meet at 3 p.m.

Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:

Families with babies and toddlers can visit the library at 9:30 a.m. for Family Story Time: 0-2. The program will include stories, songs and movement.

Afternoon Adventures: Homeschool Edition will be held at 1 p.m. The program, for children ages 5 to 11, is focused on developing literacy and critical thinking skills through books and hands-on activities. Registration is required.

Wednesday, February 14

Happy Valentine’s Day!
