Thursday, November 30

The Town of Mint Hill will host the annual Christmas tree lighting at 7 p.m. Santa will visit to hear children’s Christmas wishes.  There will be hot chocolate, cider and cookies. The Mint Hill Police Department will also be collecting gender neutral toys for children in need.  



Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:

Family Story Time will be held at 11:15 a.m.

The Rookie Science program will be held at 4 p.m. Kids ages five to 11 are invited to explore science through books, hands-on educational activities, and experiments. Registration is required.

Reading Buddies for children ages five through 12 will be available at 4 and 4:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Children between the ages of 5 and 11 can come by the library at 6 p.m. to receive free homework help from a library volunteer.

Bring the kids in their pjs for Pajama Story Time at 6:30 p.m.

Friday, December 1

The Children’s Theatre of Charlotte will present “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: The Musical” November 24 to December 23. Visit www.ctcharlotte.org for show times and ticket information.

The Charlotte Checkers will take on Springfield at 7:15 p.m. at the Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte. Bring a toy for the toy drive and receive a free ticket for a future game. Visit gocheckers.com for a schedule, promotions and ticket information.

Saturday, December 2

The Mint Hill Police Department will host the 2nd annual Jingle All the Way 5K Walk/Run.  Proceeds benefit the MHPD Volunteer and Explorers Program. Make it even more fun by arriving to run/walk dressed as Santa or his helpers. To register for the event, visit https://goo.gl/Ck4Mm4.

The Town of Matthews will host a Hometown Holiday and Tree Lighting Celebration from 3-6 p.m. at the Matthews Town Green in front of town hall. Holiday crafts, activities and entertainment begin at 3 p.m. and the tree will be lit by 6 p.m.

Reed Gold Mine in Midland will host A Golden Christmas from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festivities will include hay rides, holiday crafts, vintage holiday decorations, a Christmas market with vendors and demonstrators and candlelit mine tours. There is a $2 cost for hay rides (free for children 2 years old and younger).

Children can strengthen reading skills by reading aloud to a therapy dog during the Paws to Read program at 10:30 a.m.

The Teen Art Club will meet at 2 p.m. Registration is required.

Children can learn chess basics during the Learn, Play, Connect program at 3 p.m.

Families with babies and toddlers can visit the library at 9:30 a.m. for Family Story Time: 0-2. The program will include stories, songs and movement.

Baby Story Time for babies birth through 17 months will be held at 10:15 a.m.

Tiny Tots Story Time for toddlers ages 18 to 23 months will be held at 11:15 a.m.

The American Girl Book Club will meet at 4 p.m. This month’s topic will be Kirsten. Registration is required.

Thinking Feet of Ballantyne will present a STEM program for teens at 6 p.m. Registration is required.
