Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:
Family Story Time will be held at 9:30 a.m.
Reading Buddies for children ages five through 12 will be available at 4 and 4:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.
Children between the ages of 5 and 11 can come by the library at 6 p.m. to receive free homework help from a library volunteer.
Friday, October 13
The Charlotte Hornets will play a preseason home game at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte. The Hornets will take on the Dallas Mavericks at 6 p.m. Visit www.nba.com/hornets for a schedule and ticket information.
Hockey season opens at the Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte as the Charlotte Checkers take on Bridgeport at 7:15 p.m.
Matthews Playhouse will present the play, Junie B. Jones is Not a Crook, October 13-22. Show dates and times are: Fridays October 13 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays October 14, 15, 21 and 22 at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $13 for adults and $11 for students and seniors. Saturday, October 14
The Charlotte Checkers will take on Bridgeport at 6 p.m. at the Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte. Discounted tickets for kids ages 12 and under can be purchased for $5.50 each. The first 1,500 kids will receive a free jersey.
Autumn Jubilee will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carl J. McEwen Historic Village in Mint Hill. Come discover the ways of life from over 100 years ago with demonstrations in the museums and throughout the village. The event will feature farmers market vendors, hayrides, face painting, games for children, live animals, basket weaving, old fashioned quilting, a blacksmith, pumpkin decorating, gem panning and music.
A Canine Carnival Fundraiser Event will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Mint Hill from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the Mint Hill and Matthews Police K-9 units and a dog and cat food donation drive for five rescue groups. The Flying Houndz Frisbee dog show will do three shows during the day. There will also be a pumpkin carving and dog costume contest with prizes, food trucks, a silent auction, bounce houses, a live band and demonstrations by K-9 units. No retractable leashes.

Families with babies and toddlers can visit the library at 9:30 a.m. for Family Story Time: 0-2. The program will include stories, songs and movement.

Baby Story Time for babies birth through 17 months will be held at 10:15 a.m.
Tiny Tots Story Time for toddlers ages 18 to 23 months will be held at 11:15 a.m.
The Teen Comic Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. October’s theme is the Joker.
Reading Buddies for children ages five through 12 will be available at 6 and 6:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Two Time Story Time for toddlers age 24 to 36 months will be held at 10:15 a.m.
Preschool Story Time for children age three to five will be held at 11:15 a.m.
Reading Buddies for children ages five through 12 will be available at 4 and 4:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.
Bring the whole family for a puppet show story time program at 6:30 p.m.
