Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:



Family Story Time will be held at 11:15 a.m.

Reading Buddies for children ages five through 12 will be available at 4 and 4:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Friday, August 25

Bring a lawn chair or blanket to Stumptown Park in downtown Matthews for “Food Truck Friday.” The event is held on second and fourth Fridays, March through September, from 5-9 pm. The event features food and dessert trucks, music and bounce houses. Check out “Matthews Food Truck Fridays” on Facebook for up-to-date information for each event.

Visit Discovery Place Kids in Huntersville from 4-8 p.m. for the fourth annual Countdown to Kindergarten event. The free event focuses on kindergarten readiness. During the event, families can meet with local kindergarten teachers, learn what to expect at kindergarten, visit a mock classroom, learn school bus safety, enjoy stories and crafts and more. Saturday, August 26

Head to the ballpark in Kannapolis for Fan Appreciation Night with the Intimidators. The Intimidators will take on Lakewood at 7:05 p.m. Plan to stay after the game for the Intimidators’ final post-game fireworks show of the season featuring tunes from past decades.

Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:

Family Story Time will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Children can strengthen reading skills by reading aloud to a therapy dog during the Paws to Read program at 10:30 a.m.

The Teen Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. for snacks and a discussion of Roar by Cora Carmack. Registration is required.

Sunday, August 27

Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy an afternoon at the Mint Hill Park on Wilgrove (5233 Wilgrove-Mint Hill Road). The Town of Mint Hill, along with the Arts and Science Council, will be sponsoring Sunday Afternoon in the Park from 1-6 p.m.  The arts festival will feature artists of all types, music and traditional festival foods.

Head to the ballpark in Kannapolis for an evening of fun with the Intimidators. The Intimidators will take on Lakewood at 5:05 p.m. Come early to receive autographs from your favorite players and plan to stay after the game for the kids to run the bases.

Monday, August 28

Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:

Families with babies and toddlers can visit the library at 9:30 a.m. for Family Story Time: 0-2. The program will include stories, songs and movement.

Reading Buddies for children ages five through 12 will be available at 6 and 6:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Tuesday, August 29

Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:

Baby Story Time for babies birth through 17 months will be held at 10:15 a.m.

Tiny Tots Story Time for toddlers ages 18 to 23 months will be held at 11:15 a.m.

Reading Buddies for children ages five through 12 will be available at 6 and 6:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Wednesday, August 30

Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:

Two Time Story Time for toddlers age 24 to 36 months will be held at 10:15 a.m.

Preschool Story Time for children age three to five will be held at 11:15 a.m.

Reading Buddies for children ages five through 12 will be available at 4 and 4:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.

An Active Reading Workshop will be held at 6 p.m. Parents can learn fun ideas and activities to support early literacy at home. This four-week series will be held at the Mint Hill Town Hall – Flex Room. Registration is required.
