Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:
Reading Buddies for children ages 5 through 11 will be available at 4:00, 4:30, 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a library volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required. Registration is limited to one 30 minute session per week.
Friday, December 6
The Charlotte Hornets will take on the Brooklyn Nets at 7:00 p.m. at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte. Visit www.nba.com/hornets for a schedule, promotions and ticket information.
Children’s Theater of Charlotte will present The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: The Musical from November 29 through December 29 at McColl Family Theater. Holiday on Ice, Charlotte’s outdoor ice skating rink, is open for the 2019 season. Bring your own skates for $12 or admission plus skate rental is $16. Saturday, December 7
The Mint Hill Christmas Parade will be held at 5:30 p.m. The parade will travel down Matthews-Mint Hill Road from Bain School to the Mint Hill Library. The annual Christmas Tree Lighting will be held at Town Hall at 7:00 p.m. following the parade. Santa will be present to visit with children. Bring a toy to donate to the Mint Hill Police Department’s Toy Drive supporting Pat’s Place Child Advocacy Center of Charlotte.
The Hometown Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration will be held at 3:00 p.m. in front of Matthews Town Hall. The event will include crafts, activities, entertainment, and a tree lighting.
Tickets are currently on sale for the Nutcracker Ballet, Sugar Plum Party, and Breakfast with Santa events at the Matthews Community Center. The Nutcracker Ballet is presented by Matthews Ballet and Dance. Performances will be held on the following dates: December 7 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and December 8 at 3:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under. A Sugar Plum Party will be held immediately after the 3:00 p.m. performance on December 8. Sugar Plum Party tickets are $5. Breakfast with Santa is scheduled for December 14 and 21 at 9:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. The event is for children ages 2-8. Tickets are $10 per person. Children can strengthen reading skills by reading aloud to a therapy dog during the Paws to Read program at 10:30 a.m.
Teens are invited to participate in Community Service Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Participants will work on projects to help the library and other community organizations. Registration is required.
Chess Club will meet at 3:00 p.m.

A Holiday Extravaganza Puppet Show will be held at 6:00 p.m. Participants will enjoy a puppet show, songs, a visit from Santa, cookies and cider, crafts and more.
