Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:

Family Story Time will be held at the library at 11:15 a.m.

Reading Buddies for children ages 5 through 11 will be available at 4:00, 4:30, 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a library volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required. Registration is limited to one 30 minute session per week.

Friday, October 25

The Charlotte Hornets will take on the Minnesota Timberwolves at 7 p.m. at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte. Visit www.nba.com/hornets for a schedule, promotions and ticket information.



The Charlotte Checkers will take on Lehigh Valley at 7 p.m. at the Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte. Bring at least four cans of food to the food drive supporting Loaves and Fishes and receive a free ticket to the game on 12/1.  Visit gocheckers.com for a schedule, promotions and ticket information.

The Matthews Township Shopping Center’s Halloween Costume and Candy Crawl will be held from 5-7 p.m. The event will feature trick-or-treating, face painting, and balloon artists. The event is open to kids 12 and under.

Saturday, October 26

Mint Hill Town Hall will host a Fall Harvest Festival from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The event will feature a scarecrow decorating contest, photo opportunity in the pumpkin patch, pumpkin bowling, face painting, inflatables, food, and family games.

The Town of Matthews will host a Not So Spooky Halloween from 5-9 p.m. at Stumptown Park. The event will feature trick-or-treating, clowns, carriage rides, face painting, bounce house, sweet treats, pumpkin judging, and more. A Halloween movie will start at dusk.

Matthews Playhouse will present a Haunted Trail October 26-30 from 6-10 p.m. The trail will be located on the Greenway Connector Trail behind the Community Center at 100 McDowell St East. The first hour (6-7 p.m.) will be the Not So Spooky Hour. At the door prices are $7 for ages 12 and under and $10 for ages 13 and up. Visit www.matthewsplayhouse.com for tickets or more information.

Riverbend Farm in Midland will be open for pumpkin picking and family fun October 1-31. Visitors will enjoy wagon rides to the pumpkin patch, a barn with animals, a farm themed playground, tractors to climb on and more. Hours are Monday-Friday 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $5.50 per person and pumpkins are $0.40 per pound. The Carolina Renaissance Festival will be held on Saturdays and Sundays October 5 through November 24. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The festival is located at 15445 Poplar Tent Road, Huntersville. The Lazy 5 Ranch Fall Festival will be held October 5-27. Lazy 5 Ranch is located in Mooresville. The festival will feature a pumpkin slingshot, giant corn box, straw castle, pumpkin patch, and more. Hours are Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 12 pm. to 6 p.m. Admission to the ranch is $11 for adults and $8 for children.
