Family fun around town

Thursday, July 4

The Town of Matthews will celebrate a Family Fun 4th of July with a People’s Parade (non-motorized parade) followed by a concert in the park. Decorate your bikes, scooters and wagons, then join the parade from Matthews Station Street (in front of Town Hall) to Stumptown Park. Bike decorating begins at 5 p.m. on the Town Hall Green and the People’s Parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. A concert featuring Too Much Sylvia will begin at 7 p.m. at Stumptown Park.

The SkyShow Street Party will take over Mint Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in front of BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte from 2-10 p.m. Enjoy kids crafts and activities, food vendors, and live music in celebration of the Fourth of July. The Charlotte Knights will take on Norfolk at 6:05 p.m. at the BB&T Ballpark. Veterans and active military will be honored with a flag ceremony following the game. Afterwards, enjoy the SkyShow Fireworks Spectacular, the largest fireworks display in the Southeast. Friday, July 5

The library will show the movie Wonder Park at 2 p.m. The movie is rated PG.

Reading Buddies for children ages 5 through 11 will be available at 3:00 and 3:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a library volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required. Registration is limited to one 30 minute session per week.

Mint Hill Library children’s activities for today are as follows:

Families with babies and toddlers can visit the library at 9:30 a.m. for Family Story Time: 0-2. The program will include stories, songs and movement.

Reading Buddies for children ages 5 through 11 will be available at 11:00, 11:30 a.m., 2:00 and 2:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a library volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required. Registration is limited to one 30 minute session per week.
