Reading Buddies for children ages five through 12 will be available at the Mint Hill Library at 4 and 4:30 p.m. Children will read one-on-one with a teen volunteer for 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Friday, October 28
The Children’s Theater of Charlotte will present Grace For President at the Wells Fargo Playhouse in ImaginOn. The play is based on the book by Kelly S. DiPucchio. Performances are scheduled October 21 to November 6. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.ctcharlotte.org.

The Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions will be at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $29. For more information, visit www.timewarnercablearena.com.

Saturday, October 29
Visit Latta Plantation in Huntersville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for All Hallows Eve Family Day. Admission is $8 for adults and $7 for seniors and students. Children five and under are free. The event will include costume contests, trick-or-treating, games, historical demonstrations and farm animals.

The Town of Matthews will host the “Not So Spooky” Halloween Carnival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Stumptown Park. This event will feature games, candy, crafts, carriage rides, face painting, an obstacle course, bounce house, food vendors, music and a costume parade.

Riverbend Farm in Midland opened for the season on Saturday, October 1. The farm offers pumpkin picking, wagon rides, a playground, a barnyard, picnic areas and plenty for the kids to climb on and explore. Admission is $5.50 per person. Children under two are free. Pumpkins are priced at $0.40 per pound. Riverbend Farm is open afternoons and weekends in October. The Carolina Renaissance Festival will be held on weekends October 1 through November 20. The festival is held at 16445 Poplar Tent Road, Huntersville. Step back in time to enjoy entertainment, arts and crafts, games and rides, jousting knights on horseback, feasting and more from the days of the Renaissance.
