When our dogs look at us with those big eyes, sometimes we can’t resist sharing our food. Some human foods are not safe for your pets to eat. In this 2 part series, we will go over some of the healthy human treats you and your dog can share. If your dog is on a special diet or has a sensitive digestive tract, please consult your veterinarian before feeding any human foods.
- Baby Carrots – Carrots are not only good for keeping your dog’s teeth clean, they are low calorie and high in fiber and vitamin A.
- Green Beans – Green beans are low calorie, high in fiber and very filling, making them a great addition to pets on a diet. Opt for fresh beans or ones that have no added salt.
- Apple slices – Apples are another good source of fiber and vitamins A and C. Slice them, removing the seeds and core and use as treats or add to their food.
- Peanut butter – Peanut butter is a great treat for dogs when used in moderation. Opt for raw, unsalted peanut butter, if possible and avoid sugar free peanut butter as it may contain xylitol (an artificial sweetener), which is toxic to dogs. Peanut butter can be used in Kong toys and frozen for hours of entertainment.
