9 Free Online Educational Resources for Kids

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, schools are closed and children will continue learning from home for the remainder of the school year. Although schools have sent home learning packets, many parents are looking for online educational resources to supplement their child’s learning. Here are 9 free online resources to keep kids learning while they’re stuck at home.

Reading A-Z (www.readinga-z.com): Reading A-Z offers leveled books at 29 reading levels. The many teaching resources on the site require a paid membership; however, the books can be read online without a member login.



ReadWorks (www.readworks.org): ReadWorks offers thousands of nonfiction and fiction reading passages for children in Kindergarten through 12th grade. The site offers comprehension questions and vocabulary activities to go along with many of the passages. All articles have a read-aloud option. All ReadWorks materials are free.

American Girl Online Library (www.americangirl.com): American Girl is offering a free online library with new downloadable books posted each week.

Funbrain (www.funbrain.com): Funbrain offers free books, games, videos, and math activities for children in pre-K through 8th grade.

NC Zoo (www.nczoo.org): While the zoo is closed, they are offering free educational programs and content online. Visit the zoo’s website for a live events schedule and links to past programs.

WCNC Charlotte Weather School (www.wcnc.com): WCNC Charlotte’s First Warm Weather Team offers a live Weather School program daily at 1 p.m. Past lessons are available to view anytime.

Discovery Place Science (www.discoveryplace.org): While the museum is closed, visit their Stay At Home Science page for at-home learning activities and resources.

National Geographic Kids (https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/): National Geographic Kids offers free educational games, videos, and activities.

Seussville (www.seussville.com): Seussville offers Dr. Seuss themed activities, crafts, printables, recipes, videos, and games.
