SCNP: City Nature Challenge – Picture ID Hike

April 24, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Celebrate Earth Day and take part in the City Nature Challenge. This world-wide event uses smart phones and the free iNaturalist app to gather data about plants and animals in dozens of cities. It’s citizen science in action! We’ll guide you through downloading and using the app, then talk a short walk to ID as many species as possible. (No smart phone? No need – we’ve got you covered.)

This program is for ages 4 and up and it is Free.

Notes: Pre-registration required 3 days before start of program; register total number of people ages 4+ in your group. Dress for the weather and to walk 1 mile on natural surface trails. This program uses the iNaturalist app on your smart phone; you may download it in advance if desired. Staff will also have a communal device to share with anyone that does not have a smart phone.

Per updated Mecklenburg County guidelines, as of February 26, 2022, masks are optional while inside all county buildings. If you are participating in a Park & Recreation program that travels in a van/bus, masks will still be required; you will receive additional information in advance of each program.
