Nature at Home – Mindful Terrariums

March 14 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Being in nature can have a positive influence on mental health. Join Mint Hill staff and our friends from the Stevens Creek Nature Center in using upcycled and found natural materials to build a terrarium so you can keep close to nature in your own home. This program is geared toward ages 9-16 years old.

This program is being hosted in celebration of the 2023 Community Read and its YA Companion Title, “The Edge of Anything” by Nora Shalaway Carpenter. The main characters in the story, Len and Sage, are high schoolers facing life problems. Sage is an athlete that gets injured in their senior year and learns of a life-threatening health issue that throws off their entire future path. Len is dealing with obsessive-compulsive disorder after a family tragedy. They both turn to nature and each other for comfort and understanding

This program will take place indoors at the Mint Hill library. Face coverings are strongly encouraged for both participants and staff. Indoor programs will be operating at a reduced attendance capacity and will include social distancing based on the library space. Online registration is encouraged. Participation will be limited to the first 15 students.
