Bob and Diann Wiseman, along with their daughter Brittini Brooks, have opened a gift shop with the economy in mind. Diann said, “Whether a person comes in with five dollars or one hundred dollars, I want that person to be able to leave with a gift.” Hailing from West Virginia, they have come to love Mint Hill. “We were surprised to find that Mint Hill had no gift shop. The closest one seems to be in Matthews.”
Why the name Wizzy Doodle? Bob retired from UPS where his nickname was Wizzy. “If you came to my workplace and asked for Bob, no one would know whom you were talking about. But say the word Wizzy, and they would know it was me.” With that nickname in mind, Diann came up with the moniker of a store as unique as its name. “When Bob retired, we knew we would open some sort of store. With monogramming being so big right now, it seemed like a logical choice.”
A family business, Diann handles the retail end, Bob runs the heat press and designs and makes jewelry, and Brittini is responsible for computer and graphic work, and designs and makes jewelry as well. How does having a family business work out? Do they all get along? “It depends on the day!” Brittany laughed.
Bob displayed a monogrammed t-shirt with the letters surrounded by Swarovski crystals, just of of the many gift choices at Wizzy Doodle, then held up a sparkling necklace of wire wrapped beads. Bob said, “Many of our personalized gifts can be made while you wait. That’s how technology has advanced. A large specialized order can be done in as little as three days.”
Wizzy’s will also put monograms or personalized pictures on mugs, cell phone holders, mugs, pet tags, and cozies. Instead of a generic trophy for a sports team, Bob, aka Wizzy, can design a keepsake with a picture of a team or individual player transferred on to a metal, freestanding frame. They will even come to a sporting event to take pictures. “There’s not a granny in the world who would not want a picture of her grandchild to display,” Diann said. “We do both bulk and small orders for clubs and organizations.”
Baby on the way? Wizzy’s has bibs, tiny t-shirts, and onesies ready to apply a monogram or cute saying. Looking for a gift for someone who has everything? You can get personalized cuff earrings or specially made bracelets with the recipient’s name or the name of a loved one. Need a housewarming gift? Wizzy’s can customize a cutting board or picture of the new home. Brides-to-be will find a treasure chest full of ideas.
