Mint Hill is home to the brand new trampoline and adventure park, Urban Air.
The much-anticipated facility located on the corner of Lawyers and Lebanon Roads opened on May 13 of this year in the former Bi-Lo building.
“We looked at a lot of buildings, and the reason we picked Mint Hill was because of the community,” says owner Chris Fasulka. “Actually, there’s really nothing on this side of Charlotte,” he continues, “so we thought it was a good opportunity to come in here and put something where the kids could come play.”
Urban Air marks a career transition for Fasulka, who worked for Hendrick Motorsports for eighteen years. He and his wife looked into opening different types of facilities – ice skating, roller skating, and climbing walls, for example – but they ultimately decided on trampolines because of their accessibility. “You don’t have to have any sort of ability,” says Fasulka. “Anyone can get on a trampoline and have a good time.”
The 30,000 square foot facility has twelve different attractions for jumpers of all different ages and skill levels. In addition to wall-to-wall trampolines, they also offer the Dropzone Air Bag for landing stunts and tricks safely, a Pro Zone for expert jumpers to practice and showcase their skills, a trampoline dodgeball court, and a slam dunk track.
As the name suggests, Urban Air is so much more than just trampolines. The facility boasts multiple climbing walls, a ropes course, a ninja warrior-style course, a battle beam, a full arcade, and a zip line rollercoaster, only the second one in the US. For younger jumpers, they offer the TUBES indoor playground.
Response to Urban Air has been positive. “So far so good!” says Fasulka. “The kids have loved it. They’ve come here and said they’re not going back to other places.”
Mom Leslie Dugan recently tried out Urban Air with her six-year-old daughter Elle. “Elle really loved the ninja warrior course with ball pit,” said Dugan. “Her second favorite was the jungle gym area that had slides and was maze after maze of fun things to play on or with.”
“There really is something for everyone,” continues Dugan. “We had ages 3-11 with us, and every kid loved it. They all wanted to go back.” Dugan and her daughter went on a special deal that ran through June 30: 2.5 hours of all access (normally $29.99). They are looking forward to going back to Urban Air for a homeschool special they plan to offer in August ($10.00 for all access 12:00 – 2:00 on Fridays).
Mom Jessica Mentzer took her three-year-old Eli as well as her teenage niece and nephews. Mentzer’s son was able to do the TUBES as well as the section for kids under seven on the trampolines and the ball pit (with assistance). Her teenage companions enjoyed the dodge ball court and the ninja warrior course. “That was a huge hit for everyone, including me!” said Mentzer. Overall, Mentzer thought the facility was better suited toward older children, perhaps aged 8 and older. “It is a very large area,” she said. “It would be hard to chase after more than one toddler.”
