Rachel Ashman is a Financial Advisor and Robert Kinney is Financial Professional at Prudential Advisors in Matthews, NC. Prudential Financial has been assisting clients for over 140 years having conversations with their clients on financial topics such as: Life Insurance, Asset Management, Retirement Income strategies, Financial Planning, Annuities, Business Continuation & Insurance funding, and estate planning. One of the reasons Rachel and Robert chose Prudential is because it allows them to address their client’s challenges and goals while helping protect those who depend on them most.  After having a conversation with Rachel and Robert, it was a privilege getting to know their passions for the financial world and the communities they serve. From our time together here are a few things I learned about each one of them.

Rachel Ashman

Rachel has over 16 years in the financial service industry. She started her career in 2001 working Central Carolina Bank in Durham, North Carolina. In 2003, she moved to Charlotte and took a position with Wachovia and stayed through the merger with Wells Fargo as Regional Private Banker.  In 2011 equipped with more experience, and a passion for the ever-changing financial world, she accepted a position as Vice President, Relationship Manager at RBC bank which later became PNC Wealth Management. In 2016 Rachel joined Prudential Financial as a Financial Advisor, and has continued to proudly serve our communities.

Robert Kinney

Robert is a US. Navy veteran. He served as a Helicopter Mine Warfare Specialist in the MH-53E Helicopter community, in Norfolk VA, and as a Recruit Division Commander at the U.S. Navy Boot Camp in Great Lakes, IL. He retired after 23 years of service, and in June 2013 entered the financial–business world by joining the Charlotte office of Prudential Financial in South Park.

Robert’s ties with the military makes him a valuable asset in today’s uncertain economy, where veterans coming from military duties are looking to reintegrate into their communities. Today, the job- and housing- market is changing, especially in our area; where the resources are limited by the financial strength of the individual or family.  Therefore, when it comes to finding financial stability, peace of mind and financial security, with the ever-changing laws, it is even harder.

Realizing the need for financial education and support, in 2017 “Prudential piloted a financial wellness program as part of the USO Pathfinder SM program; this was dedicated to helping service members and their families chart the path from military service to thriving veteran status.” The program provides “free financial education, through a digital platform as well as in-person seminars that focus on financial readiness and are tailored to the unique needs and challenges that transitioning service members and their families face.”

Financial freedom and financial wellness is not the same thing. We often hear about them on various media; but only a willing financial advisor can teach you the difference. Rachel and Robert make it their mission to help people achieve both. As Rachel reveled, she has “a passion around helping business owners, busy families trying to juggle careers and children, those nearing retirement who need to determine a retirement income strategy, and women who want some help when they find themselves having to make financial decisions sometimes on their own for the first time. Rachel also expressed that she chose this career because “When you work with a financial professional like myself, you’ll do more than simply find a bridge between a company’s products and your financial concerns. You’ll also gain access to a professional relationship geared to help you meet the challenges of your financial life. It’s a relationship based on integrity, trust and on a commitment to helping you find financial confidence—at every step along the way, no matter what your stage of life.”

Robert sets his vision with another angle; he said, “When it comes to helping people with their finances, a cookie cutter approach doesn’t work. Everyone is different, so listening to you and discussing your hopes and dreams allow us to focus on what is important.” He takes pride in hearing from his clients about how he helped improve their life. “There’s nothing better!” he says.

Rachel Ashman and Robert Kinney are also seasoned financial educators. Along with Prudential Financial, they provide classes for individuals, employers and employees. These are part of the Financial Wellness program, and “can help improve employees’ financial security, thereby contributing to fewer distractions at work, reduced retirement plan leakage, and timely retirements, among other mutual benefits for employers and employees alike.” Thus, financial wellness is achieved when individuals adopt behaviors that help them gain the foundational elements of financial security, or freedom.

Rachel is also giving back to the community by volunteering. She is past President of Ballantyne Rotary Club; a member of the National Association of Woman Business Owners Charlotte chapter; a member of Women In Networking (WIN)- Ballantyne; and a member of the Matthews Women’s Club Service League. The role she is most proud of though is “Being a wife to my husband & mom to my two awesome daughters.”

Robert has volunteered with Cub Scout Pack 65 and currently with Troop 65 in Mint Hill, scheduling “campouts, food drives, “Leave No Trace” initiatives, and teaching boys including his son, Nathaniel, how to live in today’s world, doing the right thing and caring for others”. He is also on the Board of Directors for the Mint Hill Chamber of Commerce, promoting businesses. Currently he is heading the committee for the Mint Hill Business Marketplace coming up on March 24th.
