It can be said that Kevin Mays takes a large interest in small businesses. Referred to as a full-service accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, and tax preparation firm, he specializes in offering support to businesses that may be too small to have their own designated money manager. The ribbon has been cut at his new location at 11300 Lawyers Rd.

Kevin has been in the accounting and tax preparation business since 2009, working out of his home and starting with just seven clients. Through word of mouth, his business has grown so successfully to over 200 clients that he needed room to expand. An army veteran (Sgt. E5), he was stationed in several U.S. bases as well as in Germany. When he lost his civilian job after leaving the military, he decided to move in a new direction. He enrolled in college, received a bachelors degree in accounting (cum laude!) and went on to a masters degree in human resources. He also took “excellent training through H&R Block”. While at the university, he took his first tax accounting class and something just clicked. He is “good with people and good with numbers” and the idea of (or should we say concept) of starting his own company became his goal.

Kevin recognizes that many small businesses may not have the resources to hire accounting or bookkeeping employees. With a motto of “Remember you can count on me”, he offers his services to both companies and individuals. With his new location, he is hoping for more walk-in business–and being located behind the Carolina Creamery, he should be highly visible!

When asked what most people do wrong on their tax preparation, Mays answered, “They do it themselves!” Through his experience, he has helped correct many errors in which a penalty became a return. A simple mistake in filling out a form, such as transposing a number, can be costly to the tax payer. Kevin’s services have solved issues for clients receiving the dreaded “IRS” letter as well, and “nine times out of 10” can prove his client right.

Additionally, Mays offers aid in preparing balance sheets, budgeting, and bank reconciliation. He can offer his services in both payroll, accounting, and financial statements. According to his brochure, he can create “a package specially tailored to your budget and business objectives.”

Mays lives in Indian Trail with his wife Dianne and has two grown children. He can be reached at 704-641-5379 or at maysconcepts@gmail.com. Or just stop by, the next time you get a hankering for ice cream!
