Rose and Carl Strohminger are celebrating an anniversary–but not of their marriage. They are celebrating the two year ownership of Budget Blinds, their thriving business of custom drapes, shutters, and area rugs.

Rose has been in design for 20 years, and can help customers  have a vision of the beauty of window covering. Offering a free consultation, Rose will professionally measure your windows, get an idea of what you are looking for, and expertly suggest what would complement your home and fit into your budget. With 27 thousand different product options, she is sure to come up with a pleasing plan.

Carl emphasized the benefits of checking out what Budget Blinds offers: “We are local, we sell it, we install it, and we service it.” They offer a most attractive warranty: a minimum 5 years, no questions asked. He emphasized that there no jobs too small from them to take on, and they are very creative in coming up with window treatments for unusually shaped windows. Carl even came up with a rectangular shutter! It’s no wonder they have so many repeat customers.

What seem to be the trends in window covering at this time? “Forty percent of our business right now is shutters,” Rose explained. “We are also seeing a lot of Roman shades made of woven woods, as well as roller shades–but not the roller shades that were in your grandmother’s home,” Rose emphasized. “The overall trend is more relaxed and less formal.”

An up and coming window treatment is the “motorized drape,” which is easily controlled by a remote control. This is especially desirable for high windows that cannot easily be reached. Rose told about a high arched window in a client’s home that was allowing an inordinate amount of heat to penetrate. Her solution was to install a fan effect at the top to fit the contoured arch, and below that a window covering  that could raised or lowered with the touch of a remote.

If you need a rug, Budget Blinds offers those in sizes 3×5 to 9×12, in a wide range of styles, patterns, and fabrics. Once again, Rose can help guide you to the perfect option.

Budget Blinds also offers products for outdoor living, such as solar shades made of fiberglass and stainless steel to keep out the sun when desired.

What do the Strohmingers think about owning a franchise? “I love that I get to work with my wife,” Carl said, “And the freedom of owning my own business.” In fact, they like it so much, they have acquired another franchise. This is quite a far cry from Carl’s days as a police officer in Baltimore!
