Latest sidewalk project nears completion

Mint Hill SidewalkThe latest section of the 2013 pedestrian project is nearing completion. Construction is wrapping up on Lawyers Road. The new section of walkway runs from The Hill Bar and Grill, and the length of five adjacent business and residential properties. This leg of the sidewalk will eventually run from the intersection of Hwy. 51 and Lawyers Road all the way to Patriot’s Hill Drive.

Mint Hill Board of Commissioners will hold workshop March 19

The Board of Commissioners of the Town of Mint Hill will hold a Workshop on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 6 p.m. in the John M. McEwen Assembly Room at the Mint Hill Town Hall, 4430 Mint Hill Village Lane, Mint Hill, North Carolina, 28227.
The purpose of the Workshop is to provide Board members an opportunity to discuss building materials in downtown Mint Hill.

Local teacher earns national board certification – Speaks at media briefing

Rocky River High School mathematics teacher Jennifer Lunsford spoke at a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) media briefing held at the school on Wednesday, February 27. The media briefing focused on ways National Board certification is aligned with Goal 1 of the CMS Strategic Plan 2018.

Superintendent Heath Morrison’s long-range plan calls for “new kinds of schools with new kinds of instruction.”

National Board Certification is an advanced teaching credential. As part of this process, teachers must analyze their teaching context and students’ needs, submit videos of their teaching, and provide student work samples that demonstrate growth and achievement over time. Continue reading

Blessed Assurance breaks ground on new addition

Blessed Assurance’s Nate Huggins is joined by Town of Matthews Mayor, Jim Taylor and Rep Bill Brawley in a ground breaking ceremony at the facility.

Spend five minutes with Nate Huggins and you’ll understand the need for adult day care in the Mint Hill area. Spend 10 minutes with him, and you’ll likely be signed up for the upcoming golf tournament or helping the cause in some other way.

The passion he has for the adults and their caregivers is his driving force, and that determination to provide services for families has led to the recent approval of an expansion to the Blessed Assurance Adult Day Care Center. Continue reading

‘ASC believes in Mint Hill’ – Chili event brings praises from Arts and Science Council

Participants came equipped with crockpots full to the brim and accoutrements of every variety.

Oyster crackers, tomatoes, sour cream, breadsticks, shredded cheese. The possibilities were as endless as the flavors of chili and creative names.

Czec Chili, submitted by Gina Hall Luckie, promoted itself as The World’s Really, Really BEST Chili.

With names like Smokin’ Gatorchili, Death from Within, and New Kids on the Block Kickin’ Chili, folks who like it spicy were surely pleased. Continue reading

Mint Hill has managed to maintain a good balance of larger corporate presence along with locally owned and operated businesses in its efforts to preserve the small-town feel that makes the town unique as a suburb of a fairly large city.

To celebrate this feat of good business sense, the Mint Hill Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 2nd Annual Biz Expo event on Thursday, March 13 from 4 to 7 pm at Blair Road Methodist Church Family Life Center in Mint Hill.

Approximately 50 local businesses will showcase their products and services to the community in an effort to expand their customer base in the area.   Continue reading
