By Leah Schmalz

The council held a public hearing on a rezoning request filed by New Beginnings Community Church on Stillwell Road at the town hall meeting last Thursday.

The rezoning request is for construction of a community counseling center on the property situated next to the parking lot. “We’re always looking to be a valuable part of the community,” said Elder James Worthey, campus minister of the church’s Indian Trail location. The facility would also include a small chapel, offices and meeting space for civic groups and clubs.

Phase 1 of the project includes a 10,000 square foot building that would resemble the original church. The church would extend the sidewalk along Margaret Wallace as well. Stormwater management and 110 additional parking spaces are part of the master plan.  […]

Local church gives away gas

New Beginnings Community Church gave away gas for 334 cars on Good Friday.  Cars lined up on Idlewild Road and Margaret Wallace Road for $15 in gas at the corner Sonoco.  In all, the church spent $5160 in gas.  It also gave away free water and popcorn.  Funding was provided by the church and its members.
The gas event’s brainchild, senior pastor Michael Henderson, was out of town, but his wife and church executive minister, Twanna Henderson, was present.  She is affectionately referred to as First Lady.
