Pop Warner football program stresses development, safety

With growing concern over concussions among sports players, it only makes sense that parents exercise a degree of caution when considering which sport their children will play. To address these concerns, Mint Hill Athletic Association offers Pop Warner football, a program that stresses safety above winning.

A national program, Pop Warner is tuned into ways to prevent concussions among young players. “The statistic [from the program] that I think is surprising to people as far as concussions is it’s safer than soccer up until the age of 15,” said Dennis DiCarlo, commissioner for the Mint Hill Pop Warner football program. “They keep the ages and weights really confined.”  […]

Vandals caught at MH athletic fields

Teenagers were caught vandalizing the Mint Hill Athletic Association fields.  They agreed to community service at the fields to avoid criminal charges.  Last week, another group was caught vandalizing the fields, and their parents will pay thousands of dollars for the repairs.

Fall sports registration

Mint Hill Athletic Association fall sports registration ends this month.  Soccer is available for children ages three to 16, football for ages six to 13, and baseball for ages five to 16.  Registration end dates vary from August 14 to August 24, depending on the sport.  Parents can register online at mhaa.us.
