Mint Hill artist celebrates 21 years drawing Dennis

Dennis the Menace, created by the late Hank Ketcham, is published in 1,000 papers across 48 countries in 19 languages. Yet all of the weekday panels come from one source: Marcus Hamilton’s studio in Mint Hill. Since his first panel was published on January 15 in 1994, Hamilton has been producing five panels each week for the past 21 years.

“The honor of getting to work on probably one of the most popular comics, characters, features that was ever established was just awesome and I still am in awe that it ever happened, because if I stopped and thought about how many people are looking at the drawings I do it’d probably scare me to death and I wouldn’t be able to draw,” Hamilton said.
