By Ron Morris

Celebrating homecoming on Friday night, the Independence Patriots faced off against the Myers Park Mustangs in a Southwestern 4A Conference game and came away with a 50-14 victory over the Mustangs.

The Patriots took the opening kickoff and marched down the field and capped it off with a one yard touchdown run by quarterback Kelvin Hopkins.  With neither team able to mount any offense, the first quarter ended with Indy leading 7-0.

Both teams were unable to get any offense going. With 5:53 left to go in the second quarter, the Mustangs failed to pick up a first down on fourth and short.  On the Patriots first play from scrimmage Kelvin Hopkins ran 64 yards putting the Patriots up 12-0.  Indy faked the extra point and Jamar Jenkins scored for the two point conversion for a 15-0 Indy lead.
