Tonight’s Butler, Independence games postponed

Butler and Independence football games tonight have been postponed due to rain according to Butler Athletic Director Jim Boone and Independence Athletic Director Kelly Lewis. The games were moved to Monday at 7 pm when Butler will face Ardrey Kell at Bulldog Stadium and Independence will take on Myers Park at Patriot stadium.

Big I student semifinalist for scholarship

Yonas Soloman, a student at Independence High, was named a semifinalist for the National Achievement Scholarship Program. Soloman is one of 16 CMS students still in the running or the scholarship, which annually awards 800 scholarships worth $2.6 million to black high school seniors. Fire spotted during Big I fire drill

No one was hurt when an oven caught fire at Independence High School during a 9:15 am fire drill, reports WSOC-TV. The oven is in a classroom once used for home economics. A teacher spotted the smoke as students and teachers headed outside for fire drill. The fire was quickly extinguished.

Lebanon Elementary reaches for ‘whirled’ peace

[singlepic=165,200,120,,left]Lebanon Road Elementary is one of several Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools wishing for “whirled” peace today. Students made pinwheels to express their feelings on world events as part of Pinwheels for Peace events today and tomorrow. The pinwheels are part of International Peace Day, held September 21 every year.
