Former Big I standout denied enrollment

The Rock Hill Herald reports today former Independence High School football player Dominique Walker was denied enrollment into South Pointe High School in S.C. Walker, who was (unfairly) hit with a 14 game suspension for ineligibility at the Big I last season, can’t play in S.C. as a result.

Holloman still not enrolled in Rock Hill

Former Independence defensive back DeVonte Holloman is still not officially enrolled at his new school, according to The Rock Hill Herald. Holloman needs to sign a statement affirming his parents are separated and he moved to the Rock Hill South Pointe district with his father. Holloman left Independence earlier this summer.

Robbie Tucker, RIP

Independence High School rising senior Robbie Tucker, who was killed Thursday when struck by a car while walking home from a friend’s house, was buried today.

On Friday, two of Robbie’s friends,  Sydney Leibert (left) and Jessica Burkett painted the Big I rock in front of the school to pay tribute.

High school practices start next week

As summer vacation comes to a close for students, the summer football season is about to open. Practice starts August 1 at Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools. Games across the county start three weeks later, except at Butler and Independence. The Bulldogs and Patriots open their seasons August 29, and renew their heated rivalry November 7.
