Governor Perdue encourages North Carolinians to nominate volunteers for Governor’s Service Awards

It’s time to nominate volunteers to receive the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award by August 28.
“Countless North Carolinians dedicate their time to serving their communities, and too often their contributions go unrecognized,” Governor Bev Perdue said. “If you know someone who has made a difference in the lives of others, I encourage you to nominate them for the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award.  Let them know how much you value their dedication to service.”

Gov. Bev Perdue announces sales tax holiday

Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that North Carolinians can save money by purchasing items such as clothing, school supplies and computers during the state’s sales tax holiday that begins on Friday, Aug. 7 and runs through Sunday, Aug. 9.

“Especially during these tough economic times, it’s important that we provide families with a break when it comes to buying school supplies,” said Perdue. “The sales tax holiday will make it easier for families to buy the supplies they need, and I encourage all North Carolinians to take advantage of it.”

NC begins holiday clamp down on drunk drivers

Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that state and local law enforcement officers will be out in full force over the Fourth of July holiday as part of the “Booze It & Lose It: Operation Firecracker” campaign. Checkpoints and stepped-up patrols will be conducted Monday, June 29, through Sunday, July 5, across the state in an effort to remove impaired drivers from the roads.

“Too many people fail to understand that alcohol and driving don’t mix. Impaired driving is no accident, nor is it a victimless crime,” Perdue said. “Law enforcement officers will crack down on impaired drivers, ensuring that everyone is celebrating the holiday responsibly.” […]
