Good turnout for Secret Angels


Jean Bonner hosted more than 25 people Thursday night who donned masks to show support for the Secret Angles. Bonner is organizing people to do good deeds over the holidays and beyond. She is the owner of Angels Rest Day Spa on Matthews-Mint Hill Road.


MH Middle honors straight A students


Mint Hill Middle School is very proud of the more than 100 students who achieved a 4.0 grade point average for first quarter. To honor these accomplished students and their families, the school held a special reception on Thursday in the school’s media center. All students who earned straight A’s on the first quarter report card were invited to attend and bring their families. An award was presented to the students and refreshments were served. Two armed robberies at Lawyers Road shopping center

Mint Hill Police are looking for black male and a Hispanic male

On Thursday December 04 at around 7:30 pm, Mint Hill Police Officers responded to Subway 9044 A Lawyers Road in reference to an Armed Robbery. Officers spoke with employees who stated that they were behind the counter when a slender Hispanic male wearing a black hoodie, khaki pants, and a blue bandanna covering his face below his eyes entered the store. The suspect took out a silver handgun and pointed it at the employees. The employees ran out the back door of the business and stated they heard a gun shot go off. They ran to a neighborhood behind the business and called 911.

At approximately 7:33 pm, same date, Mint Hill Police Officers received another call that there was a robbery in the BI-LO parking lot, 9108 Lawyers Road. Officers spoke with the victim, who stated that he was putting up the grocery cart and as he was getting back to his car a slender black male, short hair in his twenties displayed a silver handgun and said “Hey bro give me your money,” the suspect then told the victim that, “I will shoot you if you don’t give me any money.” The victim did not give him anything and the suspect fled the scene on foot towards Morris Farms Subdivision.

Tree lighting draws large crowd

The Mint Hill town hall tree lighting drew a crowd of hundreds Tuesday night. Citizens of all ages and backgrounds enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies as well as music from Mint Hill Middle School. Photos by Tim Long.



Secret angels meet tonight

Jean Bonner, owner of Angels Rest Day Spa, is following up on a campaign promise even though she did not get elected mayor of Mint Hill last year. She is attempting to raise money for gifts to the elderly, policemen and firemen. Those who help she is calling Secret Angels. Purse snatcher cashes check, but police have a pic

On 11-20-2008 at approximately 11:20 am, Mint Hill Police were dispatched to The Bloom Grocery Store located at 6275 Wilson Grove Road in reference to a larceny of a purse. When officer arrived on[singlepic=386,320,240,,left] scene, he met with the 82-year-old victim (Victim Information is not being released by police for victim protection) who stated that a white female took her purse. The victim described this white female as being in her 40s with dark hair. The victim stated that the suspect began talking to her inside the store while they were walking down an isle together looking for an item. Victim remembers seeing her purse in the cart during this time. Suspect later left the area from the victims location. Five minutes later the victim went to check out and found that her purse was missing from the shopping cart.
While the officer was obtaining further information from the victim, the victim contacted her bank (Bank of America) to put a hold on her account and they advised the victim that a white female had just cashed a $200 check.

Suspect Charlotte Lewis (W-F-47) cashed the check at the bank at approximately 11:42 am the same day. Another $500 check was attempted to be cashed at 12:07 pm by the same suspect at another Bank of America branch, but was denied by staff at this bank.

Surveillance video of the suspect was released on 12-02-2008 and police are asking anyone with information on this suspect to include her whereabouts, contact Mint Hill Police, Detective Lezette, at 704-545-1085.
