MH Chargers lead national all star team to victory


After finishing their season with a second consecutive American Youth Football National Championship, the Youth Football Club of Mint Hill Chargers were recognized again on a National Level by having six players selected to participate in the Under Armour All American game.  The players selected were: Josh Glisson (#22), Riley Ferguson (#4), Malachi Hanes (#80), Sean Wiggins (#41), Spencer Kendall (#44) and Uriah Lemay (#21).  These players were chosen to participate on the AYF East squad.  In addition to the players being selected, YFCMH Head Coach Mike Fairfax was also selected to serve as a coach on the East team. Student-assignment lottery opens today

The student-assignment lottery opens today, January 9, and will run until 10 pm on February 9. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools families can go online to apply for magnet programs and for seats in non-magnet schools with space available. Continue reading


Extreme Ice Center to host Special Olympics event

Thirty-three athletes from Guilford, Mecklenburg, Union and Wake counties will compete in figure skating and speed skating at the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail on January 9 and 10. The 2009 SONC Winter Games ice skating event will officially kick-off with the Opening Ceremonies Friday, January 9 at 6 pm at the Extreme Ice Center.  The Games will be held Saturday, January 10 from 9 am to noon.  They will be followed by the presentation of awards.2916963077_2b1c25eb54.jpg
Special Olympics North Carolina Mecklenburg County athletes David Wilches and Caitlyn Belk will be competing in figure skating. These two athletes are members of Special Olympics Team USA and will be competing in the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Boise, Idaho Feb. 7-13, 2009.

All competition events are free and open to the public.
