Rock Hill South Pointe safety DeVonte Holloman backed out of his verbal commitment yesterday after hearing news of head coach Tommy Bowden’s departure from the Tigers. Holloman, a former Independence talent, is the No. 2 high school safety in the country this year according to recruiting Web site scout.com.
School started two months ago in Mint Hill and Mecklenburg County, but it’s never too early to start discussing next year. Independence extended its streak of scoring at least 40 points to six games, but that is not enough for head coach Tom Knotts. Independence beat Ardrey Kell 42-14 last night.
“It was just another game wading through and just getting to the end,” Knotts said. “They had six starters out, they are basically playing with a JV team. It should have been a whole lot better than that.”
