High school practices start next week

As summer vacation comes to a close for students, the summer football season is about to open. Practice starts August 1 at Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools. Games across the county start three weeks later, except at Butler and Independence. The Bulldogs and Patriots open their seasons August 29, and renew their heated rivalry November 7.

Newell postponed again…doubleheader tonight at Big I

In Wednesday's other Area IV semifinal, Pineville and Newell were rained out for a second straight day and will play a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Independence High School. Pineville leads the best-of-five series 2-0 and needs one more win to advance into a best-of-five area championship series that will start on Saturday.
