Tuesday, August 5, neighborhoods throughout Mint Hill are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 31st Annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Mint Hill Police Department, will involve over 14,625 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals l*etting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

The Mint Hill Police Department will hold National Night Out from 5:30-7:30 at Mint Hill Park on Fairview Road. MHPD, along with Big Guys Pizza, and Sam’s Club of Matthews will host the community event designed to promote partnerships and provide valuable crime prevention information. There will be live music by Horsefly, police K-9 demonstrations, crime prevention information, safety tips, a representative from the District Attorney’s Office, and officers on hand to listen to any‹ concerns that you may have. There will be games for children, a dunking booth with police officers in it, free hot dogs, snow cones, etc. Once the event has concluded, residents will be asked to return to their neighborhoods and get out and meet your neighbors. Additional officers will be patrolling the neighborhoods this evening in an attempt to meet neighborhood leaders and gather any information that can be useful in responding to specific neighborhood concerns.
