Chamber holds ‘Celebrate Civic’ luncheon

The Mint Hill Chamber of Commerce held its monthly luncheon last Thursday with a “Celebrate Civic” theme. Guest speakers from several local non-profit organizations provided brief summaries of their contributions to the community and how to get involved as a volunteer. Habitat for Humanity, the Lions Club, Kiwanis, Mint Hill Arts and Blessed Assurance Adult Day Care were present at the event. Nate Huggins of Blessed Assurance explained the organization’s purpose as a location for seniors who don’t want to enter a nursing home. With a hair salon, computers, meals, and medical care, the center allows adults to remain independent while still receiving care and connecting with others. Continue reading

SonFest

St. John Neumann Catholic Church held their annual SonFest event on June 13 and 14. Over 6,000 people attended the 4th annual carnival event, which was sponsored by American Burger Company. The event kicked off Friday night with a special appearance from Drex, Maney and Cassiday of the “Drex and Maney Morning Show” on KISS 95.1 FM. The all-star radio hosts guest emceed on the main stage, moderated the 1st annual Hamburger Eating Contest and called a few rounds of BINGO in the Parish Hall. “We are so honored to have Drex and Maney back for the second year in a row,” said St. John Neumann’s Pastor Patrick Hoare. “This year we had the pleasure of having Cassiday with them and they were one of the entertainment highlights on Friday night.” Kids of all ages enjoyed several rides, including Thomas the Train, Paratrooper, Way Out Swing, a 3 Ring Circus bounce house, Bungee Trampoline and a Super Slide. The midway featured several carnival games like the Ring Toss, Balloon Darts, Putt Putt, Quarterback Challenge and Water Race. A variety of ethnic and carnival-friendly foods were anvailable for purchase. Continue reading
