When owners of Blue Moon Puppets Pamela Shook and Stephen Clifford received a call from Charlotte Magazine a few months ago, they had no idea it would lead to a Best of the Best (BOB) award. “The photographer came out and took some photos,” said Shook. “When I asked him…he said it was just for an article about family entertainers.”

Not long after, Shook and Clifford received an email saying they had won an editor’s choice BOB for birthday entertainment. All BOB awards were announced in the May issue of Charlotte Magazine.

“It was a huge surprise,” said Shook. “They really kept it a secret. It’s delightful to be honored in this way.”

Blue Moon Puppets has been operating in Charlotte for 10 years. Shook and Clifford handle everything from performing at birthday parties, schools, and festivals to creating custom shows and puppets for others to use. Just last year they designed five puppet shows for the staff at Discovery Place Kids.

Shook also uses her degree in fine arts and experience teaching artists in her role as an instructor for Mint Hill Arts. She will be one of the teachers for the upcoming summer arts camp, which will follow the theme, “Mad for Mixed Media.” The students will explore a new form of media each day, such as painting or mosaics.

The program is taking place the weeks of June 16, June 23, July 21 and July 28. There are morning sessions each week for elementary students and afternoon sessions during two of the weeks for children age 11 and up.

Preregistration is required. Those interested can sign up online at www.minthillarts.com or stop in Thursday through Saturday to speak with staff.
