The Soles 2 Remember 5K kicks off Saturday, May 17 at Pine Lake Country Club. To date, 98 runners have registered and registration continues on line and on site race day.

Mint Hill Police Department sponsors this annual event.

Organizer Sgt. Michael Gainey says the fundraiser is all about awareness.

“To me the fundraiser is awareness of National Police Week, and to show honor to the officers that have died in the line of duty.”

Gainey says funds go to support the memorial fund for police.

“The money raised will go to Washington D.C. to the memorial where Mint Hill can show their support and ensure these officers have the best memorial the country has to offer because they deserve it.”

According to Gainey, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund does not receive any taxpayer money to fund its day-to-day operations. The Memorial Fund relies on the generosity of individuals, organizations and corporations to carry out their work of honoring and remembering the heroes of American law enforcement.

Gaines is thankful for the support of the local sponsors and says everyone has been very excited by the opportunity to put the spotlight on the brave men and women who protect us every day.

“My sponsors are Papa Johns, Nanzoriginal, and AeroDyn Wind Tunnel, Java Jeff’s Coffee and Tea Company, Dunwellz, Showmars, RxCare Pharmacy, Carolina Kids Dentistry, Southland Custom Builders, Nicks Lawn and Landscape, Elkins Automotive, Infiniti of Charlotte, Inspection Connection, Hawthorne at the Greene, Andark Graphic and Apparel Inc., Carolina Solutions ERS, and Bee’s Landscaping.”

Queens Grant High School Student Council works closely with the other volunteers to make sure the day runs smoothly.
