Chamber meeting

Guest speaker and business coach Harvey Smith addresses the Mint Hill Chamber members and guests. “What skills and knowledge do we need to develop to be exceptional in 2014?”

The monthly meeting of the Mint Hill Chamber of Commerce was held at Pine Lake Country Club on Thursday, March 27. Members gathered for lunch and listened as guest speaker, business coach Harvey Smith from who spoke on the six essentials of running a successful business.

Smith is President of Carolina Business Coach and has worked with over 1,500 individuals and organizations helping them to achieve greater success in their businesses and their lives.

Smith described the six essentials of running a successful business as a way to build a toolbox of usable skills to motivate and engage people, who are often tuned out of their jobs.

“Seventy percent of the American workforce are disengaged from their jobs,” says Smith. “They’re either not rewarded by the job, or they don’t like how they’re being communicated with.”

The thirty-minute presentation was fast-paced, interactive, and designed to get participants to think about implementing the ideas outlined.

“What are your take-aways,” says Smith. “Success requires planning. What piece of knowledge can you take away from today?”

Smith share his philosophy that business owners can become more successful, confident, and effective by playing to their strengths and adapting strategies (from their toolboxes) to overcome their challenges.
