discovery mint hill signDiscover Mint Hill is an annual event that brings citizens together with civic, cultural and historical groups. The event helps people learn about Mint Hill’s history, and how to get involved.

The event will take place at the Carl J. McEwen Historic Village.

Organizers invite participants to stroll through the village and see what civic groups are doing to sup-port adults and children in need, how the cultural groups teach and develop talents, and how history is being preserved in Mint Hill.

Civic groups that are participating include the Kiwanis Club, Mint Hill Chamber of Commerce, Lion’s Club, Historical Society, Log Cabin Pottery, Mint Hill Police Mint Hill Arts, Habitat for Humanity, Mint Hill Fire Department, Mint Hill Library, and VFW Post 4059.

May 3 also marks the opening day of the Farmer’s Market, which will host an herb and flower festival.

There will be a celebration to honor the 100th Anniversary at the Gold Office at 11am.

All the museum buildings open for visiting and demonstrations.

There will be old time music by Doc’s Front Porch players.

Anyone can hunt for gold at the Panning Shelter.

Genealogy pros will be on hand to help participants trace their roots.

There will also be games for children and the Reader Dogs!

The event runs from 9 am to 3 pm at 7601 Matthews – Mint Hill Road.

In the event of rain, Discover Mint Hill will take place on Sunday, May 4 from 1-4 pm.
