Commissioners say no to 7-Eleven

Screen Shot 2014-04-03 at 9.08.39 PMOn Thursday, March 27, at their regularly scheduled meeting, Mint Hill commissioners rejected the plan presented by BWN Investments, LLC to build a new 7-Eleven convenience store at the corner of Hwy 51 and Idlewild Road.

Residents of Mint Lake Village came out in Screen Shot 2013-10-03 at 2.53.20 PMlarge numbers, sporting matching I Love Mint Hill tee shirts, to weigh in once more on the decision to allow the construction of the 24-hour establishment, citing concerns over potential decrease in property values, increased traffic with the “chaotic” roundabout, and crime.  Continue reading

Speaker shares six essentials of running a successful business

Guest speaker and business coach Harvey Smith addresses the Mint Hill Chamber members and guests. “What skills and knowledge do we need to develop to be exceptional in 2014?”

The monthly meeting of the Mint Hill Chamber of Commerce was held at Pine Lake Country Club on Thursday, March 27. Members gathered for lunch and listened as guest speaker, business coach Harvey Smith from who spoke on the six essentials of running a successful business.

Smith is President of Carolina Business Coach and has worked with over 1,500 individuals and organizations helping them to achieve greater success in their businesses and their lives.

Smith described the six essentials of running a successful business as a way to build a toolbox of usable skills to motivate and engage people, who are often tuned out of their jobs. Continue reading

Kelly Lewis named athletic director of the year

Independence High School Athletic Director Kelly Lewis was named Athletic Director of the Year for North Carolina at the NCADA spring conference in Asheville on March 23.

Kelly Lewis was named Athletic Director of the Year by the North Carolina Athletic Director Association (NCADA) at the 2014 spring conference in Asheville, NC on March 23.

Lewis, who has been athletic director (AD) at Independence for 10 years, was honored at the spring conference at the Grove Park Inn.

The North Carolina Athletic Directors Association was formed in 1970 by the late Bob Jamieson of Greensboro, and others, with the hopes of providing athletic directors a forum for sharing their common concerns and problems while growing professionally.

Independence High School principal Amy Dellinger says Lewis has many responsibilities, and he is a true professional. Continue reading
