According to public records obtained from charmeck.org, project number 339173 for commercial construction of ALDI Store #156 for ALDI, Inc., Salisbury Division was approved on March 13.
A commercial building permit was issued by Mecklenburg County to Carmel Contractors, Inc. of England Street in Charlotte for the $1,585,400 project.
Demolition began the week of March 10. Currently, an industrial dumpster sits outside the front doors full of materials cleared out of the building in preparation for renovations. The entire inside of the structure has been gutted.
ALDI, a discount grocery chain currently has over a thousand stores in 31 U.S. states and is on course to open over 80 more within the next few years.
With the addition of ALDI and the new Publix currently under construction, Mint Hill will be home to four large grocery chains which also includes Harris Teeter and Food Lion.
Responding to a general inquiry through email, ALDI, Inc. indicated the store is slated to open in September, 2014.
