Commissioners meeting canceled due to weather– Emergency meeting held to discuss flood ordinance

The regularly scheduled Board of Commissioners meeting scheduled for February 13 was canceled due to the snow.

Mayor Ted Biggers called a Special Meeting of the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Mint Hill Town Hall to make a decision on #ZC13-11, Filed by Town Of Mint Hill, Requesting a Text Amendment to Update the Flood Ordinance in response to the revised floodplain maps being prepared by Mecklenburg County.

According to Mecklenburg Storm Water Services, floodplain regulations for Charlotte, Matthews, Mint Hill and Pineville have been updated to reflect both the new flood hazard data and the date the new floodplain maps take effect. […]

Independence renovations nearing completion

 

 The new gymnasium being constructed at Independence High School from 2007 bond money is nearing completion. The renovations to the original gym are also nearing completion. Even with the recent bout of bad weather, the projected date of completion is sometime in April.

Wilson Grove Baptist Church welcomes new pastor

Some churches must endure a long search and trial period in order to find just the right pastor to lead the way. Thankfully, Wilson Grove Baptist Church is not one of them.

In January, Pastor Rob Mariucci took the helm at the long-established church in Mint Hill. For Mariucci, the move into the position was quick.

“I was member of the church,” says Mariucci. “I had been invited to lead the contemporary services we started in August, and when the pastor said he was being called to another church, I filled in during the search.” […]

Husband and wife dental team to offer free cleanings for kids

On February 28, the husband and wife dentist team at Forrest and Forrest Cosmetic and Family Dentistry are offering free dental cleanings for children who don’t have dental insurance and are not on Medicaid.

The Forrests look forward to the annual event, called Give Kids a Smile.

“We are constantly looking for ways to give back to our community in Matthews, Mint Hill, Stallings and Indian Trail,” says Dr. Stacy Oller Forrest.  “We are thrilled to give back in a small way to the community.” […]
