The Independence Patriots boy’s basketball team maintained their top spot in the
Southwestern 4A Conference by holding off a strong effort by the Garinger Wildcat
Tuesday night to earn the road win.
After leading by only two points, 19-17, at the end of the first quarter, the Patriots
opened the second quarter with a 17-0 run and clamped down defensively holding the
Wildcats to only four points in the second quarter.
Garinger outscored the Patriots 47-39 in the second half, but was unable to overcome
Indy’s second quarter run, allowing Indy to pick up the 79-68 road victory.
Tayon Gleaves led the Patriots with 21 points. He was 3-of-5 from the field, 3-of-8 from
behind the arc and hit 6-of-9 from the line. Tayon finished the night with 2 defensive
rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals.
Deion Lane added 19 points going 8-of-13 from the floor including a three-pointer and
going 2-of-2 from the free throw line. He grabbed six rebounds, had two steals and a
Junior Bowen finished with 18 points, 4 four rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Also
Workpeh Kofa poured in 17 points getting 9 rebounds and 6 steals.
Montavius Hancock and Daivon Gamble each scored 24 points to lead Garinger while
freshman point guard Rayshawn Neal added 16 for the Wildcats.
