Monthly citizens meetings prove helpful for Mint Hill police

About 10 Mint Hill residents assembled at the Mint Hill Bojangles’ located at 9075 Lawyers Road on December 3, 2013. Chief Ledford says that the weather and the proximity to Christmas had an effect on the December turnout.

Although the crowd was smaller, they still had lots to talk about.

“We had a great discussion,” says Ledford. “Mostly, citizens were curious about police presence in their neighborhoods.”

Speeding in residential neighborhoods is a concern that was discussed at the December meeting. Citizens are concerned about the safety of their kids and grandkids, and even themselves and their pets while they’re out walking.

Neighborhoods like Farmwood and areas around Truelight Church Road with wide streets or long, straight stretches are prone to more speeding cars.

“We do have some requests to do what we can to deter the speeding in the neighborhoods,” says Ledford.

The next Coffee with a Cop event will be on February 4 at Showars Restaurant at 6850 Matthews Mint Hill Road beginning at 8 am.

All citizens are invited to attend this monthly meeting to ask questions, share concerns and get to know the officers from the Mint Hill Police Department.
