Officer of the year named at first Mint Hill commissioners meeting of 2014

Cpl. Billy Gilman was named Mint Hill Police Officer of the Year, for the second consecutive year, at the Thursday, January 9 commissioners meeting at Mint Hill Town Hall. Chief Tim Ledford presented Gilman with a pin and certificate at the brief ceremony.

Cpl. Gilman hails from Lowell, North Carolina and served two tours in Afghanistan.

“Cpl. Gilman was chosen for his professionalism, and initiative,” says Chief Ledford. “He relates well to the people in the community.” […]

Puppeteer creates mascot for shoe manufacturer

When Winston Salem shoe manufacturing company SR Max Shoes wanted a mascot for a series of commercials, they found what they were looking for when they came across Pamela Shook of Blue Moon Puppets. Shook, who has been a puppeteer since 1988, created a mascot who is soft, cozy, and black; just like the shoes. “SR Max Shoes primarily makes shoes for chefs,” says Shook. “The shoes are non-skid, very comfortable and come in pretty much one color; black.” The puppet mascot, appropriately named Max, will be the star of a series of commercials advertising the shoe to restaurants, chefs, and kitchen workers.  His motto, “Get a grip on it,” speaks to the shoe’s amazing non-slip technology. Monthly citizens meetings prove helpful for Mint Hill police

About 10 Mint Hill residents assembled at the Mint Hill Bojangles’ located at 9075 Lawyers Road on December 3, 2013. Chief Ledford says that the weather and the proximity to Christmas had an effect on the December turnout.

Although the crowd was smaller, they still had lots to talk about.

“We had a great discussion,” says Ledford. “Mostly, citizens were curious about police presence in their neighborhoods.” […]

Clear Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation ribbon cutting celebration

Clear Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation hosted an open house and ribbon cutting event on January 7th from 2-6 pm.  The new facility is located at 10506 Clear Creek Commerce Drive in Mint Hill.

The festivities included tours, live entertainment by the Rocky River High School orchestra, hand massages, finger foods and refreshments.

The new facilities has a total of 120 beds, which includes some private and semi-private rooms, modeled more toward a home-like environment

Clear creek is the first nursing home in Mecklenburg County owned by Spruce LTC LLC, located in Kinston, NC. […]
